The Integrity Unit Universiti Malaya was established pursuant to the government’s decision to establish the Integrity Unit as a focal point to manage issues in relation to integrity in all government departments as stated in Service Circular No. 6 of 2013 (SC6/2013) ‘Establishment of Integrity Unit at all Public Agencies’ with effect from 1 August 2013. The Integrity Unit at Universiti Malaya was formed in line with this decision. The Unit’s core functions as provided under Service Circular No. 6 of 2013 are to:
a) Ensure the University observes and practises principles of good governance at all times;
b) Inculcate and develop a culture of integrity among the University’s academicians, officers, staff and students;
c) Investigate and verify complaints concerning the unlawful acts, misconduct and unethical behaviour by the University’s academicians, officers, staff and students; and report the unlawful activity to the proper law enforcement agency;
d) Receive and take action on complaints or information concerning the unlawful act, misconduct and unethical behaviour by the University’s academicians, officers, staff and students;
e) Ensure the University’s compliance with applicable laws and regulations; and
f) Act as secretariat for the University Staff Disciplinary Committee.
On 20th May 2025, Board of Directors (BOD), Universiti Malaya has approved the transitioning of the Integrity Unit to the Integrity Centre. The Centre now represents a consolidated functions and entity between Universiti Malaya and Universiti Malaya Medical Centre, operating under the leadership of the Director of the Integrity Centre.
This Centre currently reports directly to the Board of Directors (BOD), Universiti Malaya with a dotted-line reporting relationship to the Vice Chancellor and the Director of the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC).
